[Snowflake Challenge] Day #4
Day Four
Comment to someone you haven't ever interacted with before or introduce yourself to someone you've interacted with and friend/follow them. Afterwards, leave a comment in this post with the equivalent of "I did it!"
It doesn't have to be anything complex - it can be feedback for a fanwork or discussing something you might have in common or even simply admiring their icon. The point is to reach out to someone you normally wouldn't and connect with them, even if it's only for the briefest moment.
I really like today's challenge! ♥
I'm pretty sure that there are more like me in fandom who would love to make new friends but are too shy to reach out and say hi. I get really anxious at the thought of leaving comments at someone's journal - what if I say something stupid? What if I'm saying something irrelevant and have nothing to add?
It is really terrifying when you're new and you're trying to find your footing and everyone around you already seems to know each other, it's kind of intimidating. But the thing I've learnt over the past year that I've tried to be a little active is that fandom is so so welcoming and no one is ever made to feel like an outsider, at least if you're trying to reach out and meet new people.
I've spent years lurking and it's very easy to read something nice, a post or a comment, and then think, "Oh, I would love to say something here," but to never do so.
To break out of that habit I'm going to make a new resolution for 2015 - to leave at least one comment per day.
It could be on Ao3, on a generic post, anywhere. And it might seem like nothing right now, one per day might seem really less, but hey, at least for me that's a start! ♥ :)
